MOU with University of British Columbia

2021.09.01

Kyoto University’s Center for Southeast Asian Studies (CSEAS) and the University of British Columbia’s School of Public Policy and Global Affairs (SPPGA) are delighted to announce their recently signed Statement of Cooperation. The statement is intended to support active collaboration between the two units, including among faculty, students, and two respective Asia-focused academic journals, namely the Kyoto Review of Southeast Asia at CSEAS and Pacific Affairs at UBC. This announcement coincides with the conclusion of the first collaborative project: the September 2021 issue of Kyoto Review, where CSEAS’s Dr. Pavin Chachavalpongpun is editor and was guest edited by Dr. Kai Ostwald, director of the SPPGA’s Institute of Asian Research. The special issue, entitled “Myanmar’s Transition Stalled: From Opening to Coup”, brings together experts on Myanmar to examine the recent coup and its myriad implications. It is launched today, September 1, 2021. CSEAS and SPPGA look forward to ongoing collaboration that advances scholarship on and deeper engagement with issues affecting contemporary Asia.
