Trajectory of Middle-class Muslim in Southeast Asia:
Religious Expression in the Public Sphere of Malaysia,
Thailand, and Indonesia

Abstract:
The rapid emergence of middle-class Muslim in Malaysia, Thailand andIndonesia is phenomenal in the last decade. They have differentcharacters in each country. These three countries have different political and economic contexts and those differences have caused diverse dynamics of middle class growth. The presentation in the seminar aims to analyze this dynamics in these three countries and also their religious expression in the public space by interviews, field observations and other literature reviews.
