Dr. Hiromu Shimizu (1951–2025), Professor Emeritus of Kyoto University and former Director at the Center for Southeast Asian Studies (CSEAS) from 2010–2014, passed away on 22nd February 2025. He left remarkable contributions in the fields of cultural anthropology and Southeast Asian studies, significantly advancing the development of these in Japan and further beyond. At CSEAS, he dedicated himself to enriching the foundations of open academic exchange based on interdisciplinary diversity. We are all deeply saddened by this sudden loss. We extend our heartfelt condolences to his family and will miss him dearly.
