Overview
Study on Sustainable Humanosphere in a Mountain Village of Laos: Household Networks in Everyday Life and Emergencies
This research aims to reveal how people in mountain villages in Laos strive to maintain their survival. They have little access to markets, social infrastructure, or government services, so what resources do they have? This study uses a network analysis perspective and methodology. In my doctoral thesis, I focused on the use of networks in inter-household lending of household goods, rice milling machines, labor, rice, and housing. They were analyzed quantitatively. The results revealed that inter-household networks play a significant role as a foundation for sustaining livelihoods. Furthermore, it was found that networks not used in daily life are employed during emergency situations. There are significant disparities in network usage between households. The decline of livelihoods, the number of children, and family cycle were identified as factors that create households with weak networks.
