CSEAS Welcomes Coutesy Visit from the Faculty of Nursing, Universitas Andalas

On December 1, 2025, nine lecturers from the Faculty of Nursing of Universitas Andalas (UNAND): Mahathir, R.N., M.N. (Specialist of Community Nursing), Dr. Atih Rahayuningsih, R.N., M.N. (Specialist of Psychiatric Nursing), Bunga Permata Wenny, R.N., M.N., Dr. Dewi Eka Putri, R.N., M.N. (Specialist of Psychiatric Nursing), Dr. Rika Sabri, R.N., M.P.H. (Specialist of Community Nursing), Gusti Sumarsih Agoes, M.Biomed., Mohd. Djamil, M.Biomed., Feri Fernandes, R.N., M.N. (Specialist of Psychiatric Nursing), and Kiki Hardiansyah Safitri, R.N., M.N. (Specialist of Maternal and Child Health), visited CSEAS.
 
They were welcomed by Deputy Director Satoru Kobayashi, Associate Professor Mario Lopez, Associate Professor Ryota Sakamoto, Associate Professor Tadashi Yamashita (Graduate School of Medicine), Associate Professor Chika Yamada, and Program-Specific Assistant Professor Youdiil Ophinni (Hakubi Center for Advanced Research).

During the meeting, both sides exchanged views on enhancing cooperation between the two institutions in the fields of education and research. Dr. Mario Lopez and Dr. Rika Sabri also presented their respective research on nursing homes in Japan and West Sumatra, discussing topics such as aging societies, the rising ratio between elderly individuals and care workers, and the balance between locally grounded understandings of elderly care practices, such as those in West Sumatra, and the technocratic knowledge systems of Japan.
 
Universitas Andalas is a state university in Padang, West Sumatra, Indonesia, and is one of the oldest institutions of higher learning outside the island of Java. The distinctive buffalo-horn shape seen on the hat is characteristic of Minangkabau culture in West Sumatra (See the group photo, upper right). During the meeting, CSEAS also expressed its condolences for the devastating floods and landslides that struck West Sumatra and surrounding provinces over the past week.
