Title: ISIS IN SOUTHEAST ASIA AFTER THE FALL OF RAQQA
Speaker: Sidney Jones (Institute for Policy Analysis of Conflict (IPAC))
Moderator: Marcus Mietzner (Australian National University, Visiting Scholar at CSEAS)
Abstract:
Sidney Jones will explore what has happened to ISIS supporters in Indonesia, Malaysia and the Philippines as ISIS has lost ground in the Middle East. The fear of returning foreign fighters may have been overblown but there are other factors that ensure an ongoing problem for the region. Neither Indonesia nor the Philippines, the countries with the biggest problems, have workable strategies for addressing it.
